NFHS Participation Survey: Option 2 School-to-State Workflow (Q&A from 2/5/26)
Kristen Jadin - NYSPHSAA (NY)
Q: Will anything change on NYSPHSAA’s end compared to their current participation survey, or will existing numbers automatically meet NFHS requirements?
A: There will be no changes for states already established with FinalForms participation surveys, including New York, Ohio, and Washington.

Q: Historically, we are still collecting information as late as July 1. Is there a way to address that?
A: Several options exist. States can use the numbers available at the cutoff date and project trends based on data, reference past participation numbers from schools, or choose not to include numbers if data is incomplete. We will lean on the NFHS for guidance on follow-up.

Q: If we use older numbers but continue accepting submissions, how should that be handled?
A: Davis noted that data is typically cut off on July 1. While incomplete submissions are expected in some cases, the state and the NFHS will need to determine how it wishes to proceed with reporting in specific circumstances.

Q: Is the scope of the survey still limited to grades 9 through 12?
A: Yes, the survey scope remains grades 9 through 12. Nothing has changed on that end from previous familiarities of the participation survey.

Q: Is it possible to have two administrators submit numbers, such as an athletic director and an activities director?
A: Yes. Two separate logins can be created, and users will have the ability to save entries as a draft while completing the participation survey.
